The transport system of Singapore is quite advanced and so travelling from one part of the country to another is highly convenient. This is just because of the vastly penetrative transport system. The basic modes of the system comprises of the busses, the taxis and the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT).
The bus service in Singapore is one of the most common form of public transportation, second is the MRT and then the taxis.
Public buses ply in almost all parts of Singapore. The two main providers of the bus services here are SBS Transit operating the distinctive red-and-white buses and SMRT plying the yellow buses. Some other types of buses that runs here are the Feeder buses, touring along a small circuit of roads just within a sole housing estate and the premier bus service, called Bus Plus offering travelers extra convenience, ease and a shorter travelling time. So its evident that buses continue to be a chief part of the transport service in Singapore. Getting to a distant or exterior area here would need you to choose buses or taxis for the travel.
Though MRT provides transport service that is much speedy and efficient, especially during peak hours, but it is still not much extensive and the trains only cater their services to the major town centers.
The MRT is more than twenty years old, but the regular maintenance has kept it almost new still now. The Singaporeans cannot even think of their life without the MRT services now. This form of transport has become almost the obligatory way of commuting from one end of the country to another. It also helps people to go easily to downtown areas like Orchard Road or the Central Business District, where the traffic is usually heavy for almost the entire day. But one of the biggest advantages that the trains have is the ability of bypassing traffic congestion. The MRT services are also very cheap in comparison to other similar services in countries around the world.
Taxis in Singapore also provide you with better speed, comfort and most of all privacy.
There are many taxi companies that operate in Singapore. Some of them are Comfort Transportation, City Cab, SMRT Taxis, Premier Taxis and others. Though the taxis also have to encounter the same traffic condition as the buses, but their advantage is the scope of avoiding the fixed routes. Most of the experienced taxi drivers are apt in avoiding jam-packed roads during peak hours of the day. The taxis in Singapore generally charge by the meter system. Though the system is quite transparent and safe, but is not much economical.
